Lifeguard Training is coming up at the YMCA! Get a 2-year Lifeguard Certification and be rescue ready to work at our YMCA or other pools! Certification includes Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid. Must be 15 years old by the last day of class to enroll.
PREREQUISITE SWIM TEST
*NOTE – ONCE YOU HAVE REGISTERED YOU ARE WELCOME TO COME TO PRACTICE YOUR PRETEST DURING REGULAR POOL HOURS
Test will be conducted at the beginning of your in-person class time.
- COMBINATION OF BREASTSTROKE AND FREESTYLE FOR 12 LAPS
- TREADING WATER FOR 2 MINUTES WITH NO HANDS
- RETRIEVING A 10 LB BRICK FROM THE DEEP END OF THE POOL AND SWIMMING IT BACK TO THE SHALLOW

Must be age 15 or older by the last day of class in order to enroll. This is a blended learning class (online and in-person), EMAIL ADDRESS AND COMPUTER ACCESS IS REQUIRED. Online portion must be completed before the in-person portion, and successful prerequisite swim test required at the beginning of class (READ BELOW). Must attend the entire class, no exceptions. Limit 10 to a class.
SWIM/TREAD/SWIM SEQUENCE
Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in both Front Crawl and Breast Stroke. There is not a time
limit but it must be continuous.
The Test: Jump in, swim 150 yards, tread for 2 minutes without using hands, and swim 50 yards. You
may not swim on your back and must keep face in the water with rotary breathing.
TIMED ELEMENT
The Test: Candidate will have 1 minute and 40 seconds to swim 20 yards, surface dive to the
bottom of the deep end, retrieve a 10-pound brick, return 20 yards on their back, and exit the pool.
Both hands must be used to hold the brick during this test.
NEW: Lifeguards hired by Y will be reimbursed after 3 months of employment (average of 12 hours per month worked.) Choose your own hours plus earn a Y membership! Ask for an application at the Front Desk!
When: DECEMBER 20, 21, 22, 2025 TIMES: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM

Retrieve a 10 lb brick from the deep end of the pool and then swim it back to the starting point.
CHOOSE A CLASS: Classes are 2 days from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
